In an effort to stop violence against children in Cross River state, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, UNICEF, United States Agency for International Development USAID, and Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society, (NASFAT) have together commenced a sensitization programme to end the menace of child abuse in the state.
AIT Reports that the awareness programme was designed to enlighten parents, guardians, religious and community leaders in the state on how to identify and stop abuse and violence against children.

Speaking during the event, UNICEF coordinator on ending violence against children in Cross River, Abdul Lateef Abdulsalam and chief imam of Calabar central mosque, Uztaz Kabir Olowolayemi said religious leaders must use their position in the society to increase efforts to stop violence against children in cross river state.
BOKI BLOG learnt that, Participants at the event commended the organisers for enlightening Muslims especially from its immediate environment on the need to show love and kindness to children with a view to ending violence against them.
The program which educates parents on the need to draw lines between correction and punishment with emphasis that Islam does not allow any form of maltreatment against children will be conducted in all the major cities in cross river state.
