1. Coronavirus: NCDC Confirms 143 New COVID-19 Cases In Nigeria The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday evening, 20th November 2020, confirmed 143 new cases of coronavirus disease infection in Nigeria. MORE reports that the new cases of COVID-19 infection were confirmed via a statement on the official Twitter handle of the health agency. The development brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria to 65,982 which includes 61,782 discharged cases and 1,165 deaths.
2. At Last, FG Agrees To Exclude ASUU From IPPIS The Federal Government has finally accepted the demand by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that its members should be exempted from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). MORE reports that the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari was made on Friday, November 20, 2020, after weeks of negotiations and foot-dragging on the issue of IPPIS. Apart from the IPPIS, the Federal Government also shifted grounds on a number of issues, including the insistence that all the academic staff of the federal universities must be paid through the IPPIS platform.
3. All Kidnapped Police Officers Regain Freedom The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that all its officers that were recently kidnapped in Katsina State have regained their freedom. The Police in a statement on Friday evening also confirmed that nine oficers, all Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) were kidnapped and not twelve as previously speculated in some earlier reports. The statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba added that two of the officers are currently hospitalized while others have been debriefed. It will be recalled that MORE earlier reported that the operatives who were travelling from Borno State to Zamfara State were kidnapped by gunmen between Kankara town and Sheme in Katsina. It was later reported that the kidnappers demanded N100m for the officers to be released. However, the Police has now confirmed all the officers have regained their freedom but the Police statement was silent on any ransom payment or arrest of the kidnappers.
4. FG Offers N65bn To End ASUU Strike The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been offered N65 billion for Earned Academic Allowance and revitalisation by the Federal Government in a bid to end ASUU strike. MORE reports that that the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari offered the lecturers N65 billion for Earned Academic Allowance and revitalisation on Friday, November 20. This online news platform understands that apart from this, Federal Government also agreed to pay the striking lecturers through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System) until ASUU’s University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) is ready for usage.

President Buhari Mourns With Senator Ndoma-Egba Over Wife’s Death President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday commiserated with Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, a former Senate Leader over the death of his wife, Amaka. The President’s condolence message was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina. MORE earlier reported that Mrs. Ndoma-Egba died in a road accident which occurred on Friday morning along the Benin-Akure expressway. It is understood that she was travelling to Akure where she was billed to attend a function before the accident in which she lost her life occurred.
6. Senate President Reveals When National Assembly Will Pass 2021 Budget The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan on Friday revealed that the 2021 budget of N13.08 trillion would be passed by the National Assembly in the second week of December. He stated this at a retreat for members of National Assembly Management and National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) in Abuja, according to NAN. According to the Senate President, the National Assembly would scrutinize the 2021 budget presented by the executive.

Gunmen Kidnap Edo Local Govt Chairman Prof. Waziri Edokpa, the Chairman of Esan Central Local Government Council of Edo State, Edo Central Senatorial district, was on Friday abducted along the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi Road in Edo. MORE reports that the whereabouts of the kidnapped council chairman remained unknown as at press time. It was gathered that council chairmen of the four other local government councils in Edo Central Senatorial District later met with the state’s Commissioner of Police, Babatunde Kokumo. The chairmen met with the police boss to strategize on how to secure the immediate release unhurt of their colleague.
8. Lagos Police Officers Return Missing Purse With N115k To Its Owner Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the return of N115,000 to a woman who lost her purse while riding on a bike. According to the police command in a post on its official Twitter account on Thursday, November 19, RRS officers while carrying out their official duty during the evening hour of yesterday around Igando area, noticed a purse falling from a woman who was on a bike with her son. The officers reportedly tried to alert the Okada rider but he could not stop as he mistook the follow up as an attempt for his arrest. However, the officers trailed the bike with calmness to the woman’s destination and handed the bag to her.
9.Umahi’s Defection From PDP A Homecoming – APC Governors Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday commended Governor David Umahi for dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This was made known in a statement titled, “Progressive Reinforcement…Welcoming Chief David Nweze Umahi to the APC,” signed by the PGF Chairman and Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Bagudu. The APC governors stated that Governor Umahi’s defection to the ruling party was long overdue.

Salami Panel Asks Buhari To Sack Suspended EFCC Boss Magu President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked to fire the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu. MORE reports that the Justice Ayo Salami panel made the recommendation to President Buhari on Friday. The Salami panel which asked the president to appoint the new EFCC chairman in an interim position for two years also asked Buhari to look outside the police force in appointing the next chairman.
