The Cross River State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Barr Venatius Ikem has accused Governor Bassey Otu of prioritizing personal interests over the welfare of the masses, alleging his administration focus on non-essential projects over pressing needs.
Barr Ikem disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Calabar, stressing that despite “the backdrop of the humongous resources available now”, the state continues to struggle in many sectors.
He said, “When PDP were the ruling party, things like infrastructure development were taken very far. The economy of the state and efforts at diversifying the economy was very prominent.”
“If you look at the current administration, there are much to say because they are doing nothing. Across the state, almost nothing happens.
And the worst part is, when you weigh that against the backdrop of the humongous resources available now, you continue to ask yourself, why? When there are so many development challenges all over the place”, Ikem stated.
He alleged Governor Otu’s administration lacks vision and fails to deliver democratic dividends despite being in control of the local government funds at the grassroots.
“They captured the local government funds; nothing is happening at the grassroots.
So you ask yourself, why? And you can’t find any answer. So our people are asking the same questions because the administration lacks vision”, he added.
Barr Ikem stated that the governor has failed to account for the intervention funds or provide tangible results, saying that despite the huge funding and allocations to his administration yet the state remains underdeveloped.
