Residents of Ikom and surrounding communities are expected to benefit from improved emergency healthcare services following the completion of a medical oxygen plant at the Comprehensive Healthcare Centre in Ikom, Cross River State.
The facility, which has now been fully installed and prepared for operation, is designed to address the growing demand for medical oxygen support in hospitals and healthcare centres across the Central Senatorial District.
Speaking during an inspection of the project, the Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, described the oxygen plant as a major step toward strengthening critical healthcare delivery within the state.
According to Ayuk, access to medical oxygen remains vital in the treatment of emergency and severe medical conditions, particularly respiratory-related illnesses, adding that the new facility would significantly improve hospitals’ ability to respond to patients requiring urgent care.
He explained that the project was executed through a collaborative partnership involving the Cross River State Government, The Global Fund, and the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).
The commissioner noted that the partnership highlights the importance of joint efforts in improving healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality medical services for residents.
Ayuk further stated that the oxygen plant aligns with the healthcare development agenda of Governor Bassey Otu’s administration, which has continued to invest in facilities, medical equipment, and infrastructure aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery across the state.
With the facility now ready for commissioning, hospitals and healthcare providers within Ikom and neighbouring communities are expected to enjoy easier and more reliable access to oxygen supply, thereby reducing pressure on existing facilities and improving emergency response capacity.
The state government expressed optimism that the oxygen plant would contribute significantly to improved patient care and strengthen the overall healthcare system within the region.
