The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed that two suspects linked to the widely discussed Afokang Community incident have been charged to court over an alleged case of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, ANIPR, MNISMA, who disclosed this in an update on Thursday, 18th June 2026, said the suspects were presented before the court following ongoing investigations into the matter.

The suspects, identified as Ofofon Philip, male, 34 years, and Offiong Promise, female, 23 years, were earlier taken into police custody after members of the community reportedly apprehended them over allegations connected to a suspected murder incident.

The Command had previously stated that preliminary investigations did not establish any murder case against the two suspects, noting that no corpse was found at the reported location, although traces of blood were observed around a soakaway pit.

According to the police, investigations are still ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, while the suspects will face the court on the allegation of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, has directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.

The Police Command further assured members of the public that updates will be provided as the case progresses.
