The Cross River State Police Command has dismissed a viral image circulating across social media platforms, particularly WhatsApp, bearing the inscription “Calabar South Get Ready,” describing it as unverified, misleading, and lacking any credible link to security developments within the state.
In a press release issued on Monday, June 9, 2026, the Command said it had become aware of the widespread circulation of the image and moved to reassure residents that the content should not be regarded as an official communication or an indication of any security threat in Calabar South or any other part of Cross River State.
According to the Police, a preliminary review of the image revealed several factors that cast doubt on its authenticity. Chief among them is the presence of a “Meta AI” watermark, suggesting that the image may have been generated using artificial intelligence technology.
The Command noted that while the watermark alone does not conclusively establish the origin of the image, it raises significant concerns regarding the credibility and reliability of the content being shared online.
Police authorities further pointed out that the image contains no identifiable location, official insignia, security markings, or verifiable details that could connect it to Calabar South or any known security operation within the state.
The Command cautioned members of the public against sharing unverified information capable of creating unnecessary fear, panic, or confusion among residents. It urged citizens to rely only on information released through official and credible channels.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Cross River State Police Command assured residents that it remains vigilant and dedicated to maintaining peace, law, and order across the state.
