Former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 general election following the ratification of the party's primary election results.
The party's National Working Committee (NWC) approved Duke's candidature after reviewing and adopting the report of the Primaries Appeal Committee, which assessed the conduct of the party's primary elections across the country.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Muhammed Ishaq, the PRP said the NWC also ratified the outcomes of governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly primaries conducted nationwide.
According to the party, a total of 420 candidates were cleared to contest various elective positions under its platform in the 2027 elections.
However, the party disclosed that it nullified the primary election conducted for the Tarauni Federal Constituency seat in Kano State after irregularities were identified during the review process.
The emergence of Duke as the party's standard-bearer marks a significant step in the PRP's preparations for the next general election. The former governor, who served Cross River State between 1999 and 2007, is expected to spearhead the party's efforts to challenge Nigeria's major political parties in the 2027 presidential contest.
The PRP said it remains committed to strengthening its structures across the country as it positions itself for a competitive outing in the forthcoming elections.
