Residents of Busi Ward in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State have been thrown into mourning and disbelief following the alleged killing of a woman by her son in a tragic incident that has shocked the community.
The suspect, identified as Aboyi, is alleged to have killed his mother under circumstances that are still being investigated by security authorities.
According to reports from the community, concerns were raised when the deceased failed to appear for her usual daily activities, prompting neighbours to inquire about her whereabouts. Their search reportedly led to the discovery of her lifeless body inside her residence.
An eyewitness, Eshebi Godwin, said residents became suspicious after noticing unusual movements around the victim's home. Community members allegedly linked the suspect, who lived with the deceased, to the incident.
The suspect was said to have left the house after the incident but was later confronted by residents upon his return. According to locals, his responses during questioning further heightened suspicions about his involvement in the death of his mother.
Angered by the development, community members reportedly apprehended the suspect and handed him over to security operatives for further investigation.
The incident has sparked widespread grief and outrage across the community, with residents describing it as one of the most disturbing tragedies to occur in the area in recent times.
Authorities are expected to carry out a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman's death and establish any criminal responsibility.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has reportedly been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary in Obanliku pending further investigations and possible autopsy.
