A heated political exchange has stirred reactions in Cross River State after social media personality MC Okrika made strong allegations against the House of Representatives member representing Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency, Michael Etaba.
MC Okrika alleged in a public address that the lawmaker has only moved one motion in nearly a decade at the National Assembly, describing his legislative output as extremely poor and questioning his effectiveness in office. He argued that elected officials should be held accountable based on visible performance and not political status or influence.
He also spoke on an ongoing legal case involving his arrest and detention over allegations of malicious damage. According to him, the arrest is linked to a petition connected to the lawmaker, though he noted that the matter is currently before a court and would be fully addressed through legal channels.
MC Okrika narrated that he had previously been confronted by individuals he described as thugs who accused him of wrongdoing before his later arrest by police officers who, according to him, operated with a valid court warrant. He commended the Nigerian Police Force for handling the arrest professionally and without brutality, adding that he was not mistreated during detention.
He stated that the matter has since progressed to court proceedings and promised to continue updating the public as the case unfolds. He maintained that he respects the rule of law and is prepared to face any legal consequences if found guilty, while insisting that his comments are rooted in demands for accountability in governance.
He further urged political office holders to prioritize effective representation, warning that voters are becoming more politically aware and will increasingly demand performance-based leadership in future elections.
The legal dispute between both parties remains ongoing as further developments are expected in court.
