The Nigerian Navy has handed over another suspected militant collaborator to the Department of State Services (DSS) in Cross River State as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating along the state's waterways.
According to the Navy, the suspect was arrested by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Victory stationed at the Forward Security Outpost on Dayspring Island in Akpabuyo Local Government Area. The arrest followed intelligence reports linking the individual to militant activities in the area.
Naval authorities disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed the suspect allegedly maintained close contact with a wanted militant leader who had been operating within the Dayspring Island axis before fleeing the area due to sustained security pressure. The suspect is also accused of providing information on the movement of security personnel and keeping equipment believed to have been used in support of militant operations.
The Navy said further examination of the suspect's mobile devices and interrogation uncovered evidence of a longstanding relationship with the fugitive militant. Investigators also alleged that some assets abandoned by the militant were being used by the suspect for personal business activities.
Following the completion of preliminary investigations, the suspect was formally transferred to the DSS for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Nigerian Navy described the development as another major breakthrough in its intensified operations aimed at combating militancy, kidnapping, and other criminal activities along the Calabar-Oron waterways. Naval authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations to improve security across Cross River's coastal communities.
