The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the government of focusing more attention on the 2027 political contest than on addressing pressing national challenges, particularly security and democratic concerns.
The lawmakers alleged that the government’s priorities have shifted towards political calculations ahead of the next general elections while issues affecting Nigerians, including insecurity and governance concerns, require urgent attention.
According to the caucus, democracy goes beyond electoral preparations and should be reflected through stronger institutions, protection of citizens’ rights, accountability and improved security across the country. They expressed concern that political activities should not overshadow the responsibilities of government to Nigerians.
