2027: "You Can't Seek Re-Election Without Accountability" – MC Okrika Slams Victor Abang, Calls for Leadership Change in Ikom/Boki

Cross River-based activist, social commentator and analyst, MC Okrika, has openly challenged the performance of the member representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Victor Abang, accusing him of failing to deliver visible constituency projects and maintain accountability to the people.

Speaking during a video commentary, Okrika alleged that despite repeated claims by supporters that the federal lawmaker had executed numerous constituency projects, many residents could not identify or verify them.

According to him, whenever questions are raised about the lawmaker's performance, supporters often point to markets allegedly constructed in various communities. However, he claimed that upon visiting some of the communities, such projects could not be found.

"The only man who has allegedly done countless projects, yet nobody can point to one," Okrika said, questioning the visibility of the constituency interventions credited to the lawmaker.

The activist challenged Hon. Abang to present at least one significant project executed within Ikom that residents could easily identify.

He also criticized what he described as the absence of regular engagement between the lawmaker and his constituents, alleging that no town hall meeting had been organized in Ikom since the representative assumed office.

According to Okrika, elected officials owe constituents regular explanations of their stewardship and should provide opportunities for residents to assess their performance.

He argued that accountability should become the deciding factor in future elections rather than party affiliation, urging voters to support candidates who remain accessible and can clearly account for their actions while in office.

Okrika maintained that public office holders should not expect automatic re-election without first demonstrating measurable achievements to the electorate.

He further declared that Cross River Central Senatorial District requires a new style of leadership built on transparency, accountability and consistent engagement with the people.

According to him, individuals preparing to contest future elections in the district must understand that residents will increasingly demand visible projects, open communication and regular interaction with constituents.

The activist concluded by saying that the political culture in the district must shift towards leaders who can be held accountable for promises made during campaigns and performance while in office.
