The Cross River State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration among security and emergency agencies to improve disaster response and maritime security statewide.
The commitment was made on Tuesday during a lecture delivered at the Naval War College, Nigeria, as part of activities for the ongoing Naval Warfare Course 10.
The lecture, titled "Effective Interagency Collaboration for Enhanced Disaster Response in Cross River State's Maritime Environment: The Role of the Nigeria Police Force," was presented by the Acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Etim Godwin Effiong, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, AIG Rashid B. Afegbua.
Speaking during the session, DCP Effiong highlighted the critical role of the Nigeria Police Force in disaster preparedness, emergency response, maritime security, intelligence gathering, community engagement and coordinated operations with other security agencies.
He stressed that no single agency can effectively tackle modern security and disaster challenges alone, adding that stronger cooperation between security organisations and emergency management agencies is essential for safeguarding lives, protecting property and securing critical national assets.
According to him, improved intelligence sharing, joint planning and coordinated operations among relevant agencies will significantly enhance the country's capacity to respond to emergencies, particularly within Cross River State's maritime environment.
The lecture formed part of the Naval War College's Inter-Agency Cooperation in Maritime Security Operations module, designed to equip participants with practical knowledge on collaborative approaches to maritime security.
Naval Warfare Course 10 comprises 34 participants, including officers of the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force, as well as international participants from Cameroon, Liberia and Ghana.
The Cross River State Police Command said it remains committed to building strategic partnerships with sister security agencies and stakeholders to enhance maritime security, improve disaster response mechanisms and ensure public safety across the state.
