Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has led a high-level inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects and flood-prone areas across the Calabar metropolis as part of efforts to tackle flooding and improve public infrastructure.
The inspection tour, which included Deputy Governor Peter Odey and other senior government officials, focused on areas that have repeatedly experienced flooding during heavy rainfall. The governor assessed the condition of drainage channels and other critical infrastructure while receiving updates from engineers and officials on ongoing projects.
Speaking during the inspection, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ankpo Pius, said the state government is implementing long-term engineering solutions aimed at reducing flooding and protecting lives and property.
According to him, the administration is not only responding to the yearly flooding challenge but is working to provide permanent solutions through improved drainage systems and other infrastructure projects.
Governor Otu also issued immediate directives for remedial work in some of the affected locations to ensure residents are protected, especially as the rainy season continues.
The state government said the inspection reflects its commitment to delivering quality infrastructure under its "People First" agenda and assured residents that efforts to improve roads, drainage networks, and public facilities across the state will continue.
Residents are expected to closely monitor the implementation of the governor's directives, with many hoping the interventions will finally bring lasting relief to communities that have suffered recurring floods for years.
