The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has stepped up its preparations for the 2027 general elections with the inauguration of a 30-man support group to mobilise grassroots support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu.
The group, known as “Cross River Arise for Prince Otu/Peter Odey 2027,” was inaugurated in Calabar and is expected to take the APC’s campaign to polling units, wards, workplaces and communities across the state.
Speaking during the inauguration, the Director-General of the group and Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chief Felix Idem, said the committee was created to expand the APC’s grassroots base and recruit more members ahead of the 2027 elections.
Idem challenged members to focus on winning their respective polling units and engage directly with voters through door-to-door mobilisation.
He said the group would work to promote the achievements and programmes of the Tinubu and Otu administrations at the grassroots.
The APC State Chairman, Chris Etta, also praised President Tinubu, particularly over the Federal Government’s intervention in Cross River’s oil well dispute and financial challenges.
The development comes as political activities intensify across Cross River ahead of 2027, with both the APC and opposition parties positioning themselves for what is expected to be a closely watched election.
While the APC is banking on its grassroots mobilisation structure and the performance of the Tinubu and Otu administrations, the major question remains whether the new support group can convert its mobilisation efforts into actual votes across the state.
With the 2027 elections approaching, Cross River is already becoming a major political battleground, and the strength of APC’s grassroots machinery will be tested at the polling units.
