APC leaders and elders from the Biase/Akamkpa Federal Constituency have thrown their weight behind Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement was made during a meeting with APC women from Biase Chapter in Calabar, where party leaders also began mobilising the women for the coming elections.
The APC House of Representatives candidate for Biase/Akamkpa, Hon. Ngim Okpo, and the member representing Biase State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Francis Ogban, jointly declared their support for Governor Otu's re-election.
Okpo pointed to what he described as the Otu administration's efforts in infrastructure, education, peace and security, particularly in communities around the state's borders. He said the record of the administration gives reason to believe that the governor would continue his work if returned for another term.
He also called on the women to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate actively in the 2027 election, while assuring them that women empowerment would remain part of the administration's priorities.
Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Helen Isamoh, also declared support for Governor Otu and Ngim Okpo, citing their performance in the state. She urged the women to remain politically active and ensure eligible members of their households participate in voting.
For Francis Ogban, the gathering was part of the wider effort to secure victory for Otu, Okpo and himself in 2027. He also highlighted Ngim Okpo's involvement in efforts to address boundary disputes, including the Biase West boundary issue.
The Secretary to Biase Local Government Council, Barr. Jacob Ukpai, urged the women to remain focused and avoid distractions as the election approaches.
Responding on behalf of the women, the Biase APC Women Leader, Ms. Ibe Egwu Inna, pledged the support of the chapter for the APC candidates. She said the women would work for the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Otu, Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, Ngim Okpo and Francis Ogban in the 2027 elections.
The development adds Biase/Akamkpa to the growing list of areas where APC supporters are publicly beginning to organise around Governor Otu's 2027 re-election bid.
