The Central Youths for Good Governance Group has declared its total support for Bassey Eko Ewa, the NDC senatorial candidate for Cross River Central Senatorial District, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Coordinator of the group, Joshua Amanke, said the decision was based on what the youths described as the need for experienced representation and a stronger push for development across the district.
According to Amanke, Cross River Central remains one of the major commercial and economic areas of Cross River State, but many communities in the district are still struggling with basic infrastructure and development despite the economic activities taking place in the area.
He specifically mentioned Ikom, Boki and Etung, saying the three areas contribute significantly to the state's economy but have continued to face development challenges.
Amanke said the group believes Eko Ewa has the experience required to properly represent the district at the National Assembly, pointing to his previous experience in the Cross River State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.
He said the former lawmaker understands the workings of government and would be able to present the challenges facing Cross River Central before the Senate while also pushing for investments, projects and other opportunities for the people.
The group coordinator also criticised the decision of some political stakeholders to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that the party's performance at the national and state levels should be part of the issues voters consider before the election.
Another member of the group, Cecilia Bojuo, said Eko Ewa has a track record of what she described as excellence, particularly from his time representing the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Bojuo also reacted to the September 29 political gathering involving stakeholders from the Ikom-Boki-Obubra-Etung (IBOE) alliance, where participants declared support for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Bassey Otu and APC candidates.
According to Bojuo, those who, in the group's view, have contributed to the problems facing Cross River Central should not be the ones deciding who the people will support at the polls.
She said the youths have made their own political decision and are backing Bassey Eko Ewa for the Cross River Central Senate seat.
The Central Youths for Good Governance Group said its position is based on what it described as the need for competent representation, development and greater attention to the challenges facing communities across the senatorial district.
The group called on youths and other residents of Cross River Central to look beyond political endorsements and consider the experience, record and plans of the candidates before making their choice in the 2027 election.
