The Secretary to the Cross River State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, has said Governor Bassey Edet Otu should complete two terms in office before the governorship returns to Cross River Central.
Owan-Enoh made the position known while speaking on the Ikom-Boki-Obubra-Etung (IBOE) Alliance, describing the four local government areas as a critical part of the political and geographical structure of Cross River State.
According to him, Ikom, Boki, Obubra and Etung occupy a strategic position in the state, likening the area to the “heart” of Cross River.
“The people of Ikom, Boki, Obubra and Etung are the heart of Cross River State. We connect the state. If the North is the head, and the South is the legs, we're the heart. When we stop working, the body ceases, the state will cease to exist,” he said.
The SSG said the alliance had resolved not to be deceived and would support the continuation of Governor Otu's administration beyond his first term.
“We are to say, we will not be deceived. We say four years plus four years,” Owan-Enoh declared.
He further stated that the position of the IBOE bloc was that Governor Otu should serve the constitutionally permitted two terms before power returns to the Central Senatorial District.
“From Ikom, Boki, Obubra and Etung, we say Governor Bassey Otu must complete eight years.
“He must spend eight years before it'll come to the Central,” Owan-Enoh said.
His remarks come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with stakeholders across the state's three senatorial districts taking positions on the next political transition.
