Paramount Rulers from Ikom, Boki, Obubra and Etung Local Government Areas of Cross River State have declared their support for the re-election of Governor Bassey Edet Otu and the return of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

The traditional rulers made their position known during the Ikom-Boki-Obubra-Etung (IBOE) Alliance engagement, where leaders from the four local government areas reaffirmed their support for the governments at the state and federal levels.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Paramount Ruler of Etung Local Government Area, HRM (Amb.) Anthony Ntui Etta II, said the monarchs were not politicians but had chosen to support the government of the day.

> “We are not politicians, but we're supporting the governments of the day. The government of that day is part of us,” he said.

The Etung monarch also referenced the political history of Cross River State, noting that successive governors since the return of democracy had served two terms.

“Since the inception of democracy in this country, there is no Governor who has ended in four years. They have all done eight years,” he stated.

According to him, the traditional rulers would make their position known publicly and demonstrate that they were firmly behind the current administration.

“We are going to let the whole world know that we're behind the Government of the day. I am here with all my Paramount Rulers,” he added.

The traditional rulers present at the gathering included HRH Minen Takon Atangha, Paramount Ruler of Ikom LGA; HRM Otu Fredarline Akandu, Paramount Ruler of Boki LGA; HRM Chief Sylvanus Ovat, Acting Paramount Ruler of Obubra LGA; and HRM (Amb.) Anthony Ntui Etta II, Paramount Ruler of Etung LGA.

Their declaration adds the voice of traditional institutions across the four local government areas to the growing political mobilisation around Governor Otu's 2027 re-election bid and President Tinubu's continued presidency.

The declaration also signals a coordinated position among the traditional rulers of the IBOE bloc as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum in Cross River State.
