The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has engaged the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Calabar Branch, on strengthening collaboration between the Police and the legal profession to improve justice delivery in the state.

The engagement, held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, involved the Executive Committee and members of the NBA Calabar Branch, popularly known as the Doyen Bar, led by its Chairman, Enome J. Amatey, Esq., PNM, CHMC, MCAI. According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the meeting focused on effective justice delivery, respect for due process, professional cooperation and stronger institutional relationships within the justice sector.

CP Ordue said the Police remained committed to working with the NBA and other justice-sector institutions to promote lawful, fair and effective administration of justice in Cross River State.

He urged lawyers to properly advise their clients on appropriate legal avenues for resolving disputes and discourage the use of criminal processes in matters that are essentially civil in nature.

The Commissioner stressed that the Police should not be used as an avenue for settling purely civil disagreements, while calling for greater professional cooperation between the Police and members of the legal profession.

CP Ordue also urged the NBA Calabar Branch to use its professional platforms to intensify public sensitisation against jungle justice and mob action. He called on lawyers to educate members of the public on the dangers and legal consequences of taking the law into their own hands.

The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustained engagement with the legal profession, judiciary and other relevant stakeholders, noting that effective justice delivery requires cooperation among institutions within their respective mandates.

Speaking during the engagement, NBA Calabar Branch Chairman, Enome J. Amatey, appreciated the Commissioner for the meeting and expressed the branch’s willingness to sustain professional dialogue and collaboration with the Police in advancing justice administration in Cross River State.
