Local Government Coordinators and members of the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement in Cross River State have passed a vote of confidence in the State Coordinator, Hon. Egwu Arong, urging him to remain in office.
The position was contained in a letter dated September 6, 2026, addressed to Arong and signed by coordinators representing Local Government Areas and chapters across the state.
The development comes amid reports of persons allegedly parading themselves as the State Coordinator of the OK Movement in Cross River State. The emergence of such parallel claims has reportedly raised concerns within the movement, particularly as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections build-up.
The situation has also drawn attention to allegations that some of those presenting themselves as leaders of the movement may be sponsored by political interests, including individuals allegedly linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the aim of creating division and destabilising the movement's activities around Peter Obi.
Against this backdrop, the Local Government Coordinators have publicly reaffirmed their support for Arong's leadership.
In the letter titled “Vote of Confidence and Continuity in Office as State Coordinator,” the coordinators said continuity of leadership was necessary at the current stage of preparation and mobilisation.
They stated that a change of coordinator at this point could interrupt ongoing work across the Local Government Areas, weaken coordination and distract the chapter from its tasks.
The coordinators also cited Arong's experience, accessibility and working relationship with coordinators across the state as valuable assets to the movement.
They consequently resolved that a vote of confidence be passed on Arong as State Coordinator and respectfully requested that he remain in office rather than step down.
They further pledged their continued cooperation, loyalty and support to him in the discharge of his responsibilities.
The document contains the names and signatures of coordinators representing several Local Government Areas and chapters, including Boki, Obudu, Obanliku, Odukpani, Yakurr, Ikom, Etung, Calabar South, Ogoja, Calabar Municipal, Akamkpa, Obubra, Abi, Yala and Bakassi.
The signatories' action effectively places their support behind the existing coordination structure of the movement in Cross River State as political mobilisation intensifies ahead of 2027.
The Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, popularly known as the OK Movement, is associated with former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, whose political alliance and supporters have continued to attract attention ahead of the 2027 elections.
