The Cross River State Police Command has arrested one suspect and launched a manhunt for other persons allegedly involved in the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in Calabar.
The incident, according to the Command, was reported on September 9, 2026, at the Ikpa Omin Police Division.
Police said the girl was allegedly forcibly taken to a residence in the 8 Miles area of Calabar on September 4, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted by two suspects and prevented from leaving the residence for about three days.
Following the report, operatives of the Ikpa Omin Police Division arrested one Felix Solomon, who is currently assisting the police with information that could help investigators unravel what happened and identify other persons allegedly involved.
The Command said efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects.
Police authorities also said appropriate investigative and child-protection procedures have been activated to protect the survivor's privacy, dignity and welfare.
The Command stressed that the identity and other identifying details of the girl would not be disclosed, in line with measures to protect her from further trauma and possible stigmatisation.
The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and thoroughly, in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner further assured that anyone found culpable after investigation would be prosecuted and made to face the full consequences of the law upon conviction.
The Police Command condemned sexual violence against children and urged parents, guardians and members of the public to promptly report suspected cases to the Police or relevant child-protection authorities.
The Command also cautioned against trial by media, reminding the public that suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
