The Cross River State Police Command has intensified its collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) as part of efforts to tackle illicit drug trafficking, cultism, trafficking and other security challenges across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, made the move during separate engagements with the NDLEA and NIS commands in the state on September 18, 2026.
During his meeting with the NDLEA, led by the State Commander, CN Anteyi John, CP Ajo stressed the need for sustained inter-agency cooperation in the fight against illicit drugs and crimes associated with drug abuse.
The police commissioner also received a special recognition as an “Ambassador of the War Against Drug Abuse” in recognition of his support for collective efforts to combat illicit drug activities in Cross River State.
CP Ajo said the fight against illicit drugs requires more than enforcement, noting the importance of intelligence-led operations, preventive measures, public enlightenment and community engagement.
He assured the NDLEA of the Police Command’s continued support in disrupting criminal networks and protecting vulnerable members of the public from the consequences of illicit drug abuse.
The Commissioner also held discussions with the Nigeria Immigration Service, Cross River State Command, led by Comptroller Okey Chinedu Anyanwa, on strengthening information sharing, migration monitoring and border security.
Particular attention was given to coordinated responses to trans-border criminal activities, given Cross River State’s strategic borders with neighbouring countries.
CP Ajo noted that criminals do not operate according to the institutional boundaries of security agencies, stressing that law enforcement agencies must therefore work together through timely intelligence sharing and coordinated operations.
He reaffirmed the Police Command’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with sister security and regulatory agencies under his DCIIDT policing strategy, which focuses on Discipline, Community Policing, Inter-Agency Collaboration, Intelligence-Led Policing, Discreet Investigation, Diligent Prosecution and Teamwork.
The Cross River Police Command said the renewed collaboration is aimed at improving public safety, protecting lives and property and creating a more secure environment for residents, visitors and businesses across the state.
The Command also called on members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, stressing that effective security requires cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
