The Cross River State Police Command and the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) have strengthened their security partnership as part of efforts to tackle cult-related activities and other emerging threats within and around the university community.
The development followed a strategic meeting between the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, and the Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Professor Francisca Bassey, at the Command Headquarters on September 11, 2026.
The meeting focused on strengthening the security architecture of the university and ensuring a safe and conducive environment for students, staff and other members of the university community.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Command, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the Commissioner assured the university management of increased police visibility and security presence within and around the campus.
He said the enhanced security measures would be supported by intelligence-led policing, improved information sharing and prompt response to emerging security concerns.
The Police Command and the university also agreed to deepen cooperation between the police and the university's security structures, particularly in identifying and responding to threats capable of disrupting academic activities.
The Command urged students and staff to promptly report suspicious activities, cult-related threats, recruitment attempts and other security concerns through appropriate channels.
As part of its preventive approach, the police said it would strengthen the deployment of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) initiative within the university community, alongside other youth-focused interventions.
Speaking at the meeting, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey, commended the Commissioner for sustaining the existing partnership between the university and the Police Command.
She pledged the continued cooperation and support of the university while calling for deeper collaboration to address cultism and other emerging security challenges.
The Commissioner reiterated the Command's commitment to working with UNICROSS management and other stakeholders to maintain peace and security within the university environment.
He stressed that effective campus security requires sustained partnership, vigilance and shared responsibility among the police, university authorities, students, staff and other stakeholders.
The latest engagement comes as authorities intensify preventive measures against cultism and other security threats that could undermine academic activities and the safety of members of the university community.
