The Cross River State Police Command has released the photograph of an unidentified woman found dead in a hotel along Clifford Lane in Calabar South, as investigators intensify efforts to establish her identity and determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
The Command, in an update issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, said the woman was the subject of an ongoing suspected homicide investigation earlier announced in its September 8 press release.
According to the police, preliminary investigation showed that the deceased lodged at the hotel alongside a male guest whose current whereabouts remain unknown.
The Command said efforts are ongoing to locate the man and establish what happened before the woman’s death.
Police also said the receptionist who was on duty when the incident occurred remains in custody and is assisting investigators with information about the admission of the guests and events leading up to the discovery of the deceased.
The police stressed that the receptionist’s detention should not be interpreted as a determination of guilt, noting that further action would be based on available evidence and in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has directed investigators to conduct the case professionally and objectively.
The investigation is expected to establish the identity of the deceased, determine the circumstances surrounding her death, locate the male guest and establish the roles, if any, of other persons connected to the incident.
The Police Command is now appealing to residents and members of the public who may recognise the woman from her photograph, know her family or associates, or have information that could assist in locating the male guest to come forward.
