The political atmosphere in Cross River State has taken another turn ahead of the 2027 general elections after the state chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Goddie Archibong Akpama, rejected the appearance of his name on a purported All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council list.
Akpama described the listing as misleading and unacceptable, insisting that he is not a member of the APC and has no affiliation with the party's campaign council in Cross River State.
According to a report by TheCable published on October 22, 2026, Akpama and the NDC state leadership said their attention was drawn to an online directory that listed an individual identified as "Mr Goddy Akpama" under the Chieftaincy Affairs category of the purported APC Cross River State Campaign Council.
The NDC chairman said the listing was not only misleading but also contained an incorrect spelling of his name. He clarified that his full name is Goddie Archibong Akpama.
The party warned that the publication could mislead members of the public, create confusion among political stakeholders and damage the chairman's political standing.
The NDC leadership also raised concerns that some individuals could be using the publication to embarrass or politically blackmail Akpama, although it did not identify those responsible for the listing.
The party has challenged the individuals behind the compilation, hosting and circulation of the directory to explain how the NDC chairman's name found its way onto the list.
It also demanded the immediate removal of the listing and a public clarification to prevent further spread of what it described as false information.
Akpama, according to the statement, remains committed to his responsibilities as the NDC chairman in Cross River State and to advancing the party's political objectives, including efforts to bring Peter Obi into the political equation through the NDC platform.
The party urged journalists, political stakeholders and members of the public not to treat the online directory as evidence that Akpama belongs to the APC.
The development comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties and their supporters positioning themselves for the contest.
However, the circumstances surrounding the appearance of Akpama's name on the purported campaign council list remain unclear. No response from the APC explaining the listing was included in TheCable's report.
For now, the NDC chairman has made his position clear: he rejects any attempt to associate him with the APC and wants those responsible for the publication to correct the record.
