The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, Abang Pius Besong, has called on constituents to remain peaceful, united and committed to the development of their communities as Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Besong, in an Independence Day message to his constituents, said the anniversary was an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s journey since independence while praying for greater freedom, peace, prosperity and genuine development.
He said independence goes beyond freedom from colonial rule, stressing that citizens also have a responsibility to contribute positively to the growth of the country through good governance, accountability, unity, responsible leadership and peaceful participation in democracy.
According to him, many Nigerians are still waiting to fully enjoy the dividends of democracy, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, employment, security and improved living standards.
Besong said these challenges were also being felt in Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, urging constituents to actively participate in the democratic process and make informed choices that reflect their aspirations.
As the 2027 elections approach, the PDP candidate urged the people to reject violence, division, intimidation and other actions capable of threatening peace and development in the constituency.
He called for collective efforts towards building a stronger Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency and a better Nigeria.
Besong concluded his message by wishing Nigerians a happy Independence Day and praying for the continued prosperity of the country.
