The Cross River State Police Command has commenced strategic preparations for a statewide campaign against cultism and other social vices following a meeting between Commissioner of Police Ajo Geoffrey Ordue and the newly appointed state chairman of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), Dr. Prince Michael Nku Abuo.

The meeting, held on October 5, 2026, at the Police Command Headquarters in Calabar, focused on strategies to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, youth sensitisation and community participation in crime prevention across Cross River State.

Dr. Nku Abuo, who was appointed POCACOV chairman at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on September 17, 2026, visited the Commissioner of Police alongside members of his campaign team to discuss preparations for the official launch of the initiative in the state.

According to a press release issued by the Command's Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the meeting brought together members of the police management team and the POCACOV state coordinator for discussions on preventing cultism and other social vices.

The proposed statewide campaign will focus on raising awareness and promoting preventive measures against cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, violence and other harmful activities affecting young people and communities.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen collaboration between the police, schools, parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations and other stakeholders in addressing the social and security challenges confronting young people.

Speaking during the meeting, CP Ordue reaffirmed the Command's commitment to proactive policing, public enlightenment and community-based crime prevention.

He stressed the importance of collective responsibility in tackling security challenges and creating a safer environment for young people and residents across the state.

Dr. Nku Abuo is expected to work closely with the POCACOV state coordinator and other relevant stakeholders to promote youth empowerment, encourage responsible behaviour and mobilise communities against cultism and related social vices.

The initiative aligns with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which emphasises proactive policing, community partnership and innovative approaches to crime prevention.

The Command has called on parents, guardians, educational institutions, traditional rulers, religious leaders and community organisations to support POCACOV's activities and participate actively in efforts to prevent cultism and other social vices.

The police noted that sustainable security requires the involvement of all members of society, particularly at the grassroots level, where early intervention, public awareness and community cooperation can help prevent young people from engaging in criminal activities.

The official launch date for the statewide campaign was not stated in the press release.
