The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 46-year-old woman, Adama Inuwa, after recovering 1.1 tonnes of cannabis from Iyala Nkun village in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The arrest was made on Sunday, October 4, 2026, following surveillance operations by NDLEA operatives in the community.
According to the agency, officers recovered 181 bags of cannabis weighing a total of 1,100 kilogrammes, alongside 17.15 kilogrammes of cannabis seeds.
The seizure represents a major operation against the illegal possession and distribution of cannabis in Cross River State.
The NDLEA disclosed the arrest in a statement released on Sunday, October 11, as part of its report on drug seizures and arrests recorded across several states in Nigeria.
The agency did not provide further details about the suspect's alleged role in the drug trade or whether she had been formally charged in court.
The arrest comes amid continued efforts by the NDLEA to tackle drug trafficking and the distribution of illicit substances across the country.
Residents of Ikom and other communities in Cross River State have continued to face concerns over the impact of illegal drugs on young people and community safety.
The NDLEA has urged its officers to sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting the supply and distribution of illicit substances.
The suspect remains accused of an alleged drug-related offence, and any determination of her guilt will be a matter for the court.
