Cross River State Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has received national recognition for his administration’s digital revenue transformation efforts, as the state, its digital government platform and technology partner, Nugi Technologies Nigeria Limited, collectively secured eight honours at the 2026 Nigeria eGovernment Excellence Awards.
The awards were formally presented to the governor in Calabar by the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Associate Professor Justin Beshel, alongside representatives of Nugi Technologies.
The recognition covers digital revenue administration, government services, technology innovation, digital policy and the use of technology to improve governance in Cross River State.
Governor Otu received the award for Governor of the Year in Digital Revenue and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) Innovation. The award recognises the administration’s efforts to use technology to improve revenue collection and strengthen the systems through which government generates income.
Commissioner Beshel was also recognised as State Digital Policy Leader of the Year for his role in driving the state’s digital policy and technology agenda.
The Cross River State Government received two awards: Best State Mobile Government Initiative and Most Improved State eGovernment Service Deployment.
The state’s digital platform, My Cross River App, also won two awards, emerging as GovTech Innovation of the Year and Best Government Payment Solution.
Nugi Technologies Nigeria Limited, the technology partner supporting the state’s digital transformation efforts, received recognition as E-Government Technology Partner of the Year and E-Government Startup of the Year.
According to the state government, the awards reflect the contributions of government leadership, policy development, digital infrastructure and private-sector technology expertise to the state’s digital governance programme.
The My Cross River App is designed to connect residents with government services, information and digital payment facilities. Its recognition for innovation and government payment solutions highlights the growing role of digital platforms in how citizens interact with government.
The government said the recognition of Nugi Technologies also highlights the contribution of technology companies to the development and deployment of digital platforms and infrastructure for public service delivery.
For Cross River State, the awards come as the government continues to pursue the use of technology to improve public administration and revenue generation.
Internally generated revenue is an important source of funding for state governments, helping them finance public services, infrastructure and other development programmes. Digital revenue systems can support this process by improving payment procedures, record-keeping and the monitoring of government income.
However, the practical value of such systems will ultimately depend on how effectively they work, the ease with which residents can access government services and whether the improvements translate into better service delivery for the people.
The eight honours represent national recognition for Cross River’s digital governance efforts, with the state government describing the achievement as an important milestone in its technology-driven development agenda.
The awards also bring attention to the roles of Governor Otu, Commissioner Beshel, the state’s digital government platform and Nugi Technologies in the ongoing transformation of government services in Cross River State.
