The Cross River State Police Command has arrested two men over the alleged murder of their 46-year-old stepbrother, Bassey Eno Ibiang, in Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Omini Eno Ibiang, 28, and Emmanuel Eno Ibiang, 26, were arrested following a report made to the police on October 25, 2026.

According to the police, the incident allegedly followed an accusation that the deceased stole a bag belonging to the suspects' elder sister.

The complainants told the police that the deceased was allegedly tied by his hands and legs before he was attacked with a machete, sustaining a deep wound to the head.

He was subsequently rushed to Ugep General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. His body was later deposited in the hospital mortuary.

Following the report, police operatives arrested the two suspects and commenced preliminary investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the individual roles of those involved.

The Commissioner of Police, Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands over allegations of theft or other disputes.

He urged residents to report suspected criminal activities to the police and allow the appropriate authorities to handle such matters in accordance with the law.

The police said the two suspects remain under investigation and are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

The Command assured the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated and handled in line with due process.
