Governor Bassey Otu has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election in Cross River State following a statewide affirmation exercise conducted by the party.
The exercise, which formed part of the APC governorship primaries across the country, witnessed party stakeholders, delegates and supporters openly endorsing Otu for a second term in office. Reports from several local government areas indicated large turnouts as party members rallied behind the governor’s candidacy.
A delegation from the APC National Secretariat led by the party’s National Deputy Treasurer, Ben Akak, monitored the exercise across the 18 local government areas of the state. According to the delegation, the turnout and level of support recorded during the affirmation exercise reflected the governor’s growing popularity within the party.
Speaking during the exercise, Akak described the support for Otu as overwhelming and urged party loyalists to intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also praised the governor’s role in strengthening the APC in the South-South region.
The APC South-South Zonal Organising Secretary, Prince Edwin Ajang, also commended Otu’s leadership, describing Cross River as a key APC stronghold in the region while calling on party members to remain united after the primaries.
The development places Otu among several first-term APC governors across the country who secured their party’s tickets through consensus and affirmation arrangements ahead of the 2027 elections.
