Cross River social media activist and content creator, MC Okrika, has intensified his allegations against the Cross River State Police Command following the Command’s official statement denying claims of intimidation against him.
Reacting to the police statement, MC Okrika insisted that the armed men who reportedly visited his residence were not properly identified as police officers, alleging that they appeared dressed in black outfits without uniforms or visible name tags.
According to him, the appearance of the officers contradicted directives from the Inspector General of Police mandating officers on operations to appear in proper uniforms with clear identification.
The activist further questioned the transparency of the operation, alleging that the warrant shown to his wife during the visit stated that operatives were searching for stolen laptops allegedly hidden in the house.
MC Okrika argued that the explanation from the police linking the operation to a petition involving cyberstalking and cyber harassment did not align with the contents of the warrant allegedly presented at his residence.
He also reacted to claims by the Police that the officers were acting on a petition reportedly filed by Michael Etaba.
According to MC Okrika, the petition is connected to a viral video he shared online in which a man publicly confronted the federal lawmaker and accused him of allegedly having an affair with his wife and destroying his home. The now-viral clip reportedly showed the woman seated in front of the lawmaker’s vehicle during the confrontation.
The activist questioned why he appeared to be the main target of the petition despite the fact that several influential social media users, bloggers, and online platforms also reposted and circulated the same video across the internet.
“Why am I the only one being targeted when many other bloggers and influential people shared the same video?” he asked.
MC Okrika maintained that the Police had failed to convince him that the operation carried out at his residence was transparent and professional, adding that he no longer trusts the process.
The activist again warned that both the Cross River State Police Command and Hon. Michael Etaba should be held responsible if anything happens to him.
Despite his concerns, the content creator said he would honour the invitation extended to him by the Police Public Relations Officer and appear before the police on Wednesday as requested by the Command.
The controversy follows viral videos posted by the activist alleging extortion and misconduct by officers at a checkpoint in Etung Local Government Area, including another clip allegedly showing an officer smoking Indian hemp while on duty.
