APC House of Representatives aspirant for Obudu/Bekwara/Obanliku Federal Constituency, Antonia Agbede-Ally, has alleged that no genuine APC primaries were conducted in the constituency, claiming candidates were allegedly pre-selected before the exercise began.

Speaking during an interview on , Agbede-Ally described the process as chaotic and lacking credibility, insisting that party members were allegedly directed to support the incumbent lawmaker, Peter Apanke, before any voting process commenced.

According to her, she was initially excluded from a stakeholders’ meeting where party executives allegedly instructed members to align with the governor’s directives and support a preferred candidate despite the presence of other aspirants in the race.

She further alleged that no proper electoral materials were provided in some wards, while what was described as “verbal affirmation” was used in place of standard voting procedures. Agbede-Ally maintained that the exercise lacked transparency across Obudu, Bekwara and Obanliku LGAs.

The APC aspirant also claimed she faced pressure to step down before the primaries and argued that aspirants were encouraged to purchase nomination forms despite what she described as a predetermined outcome.

Agbede-Ally said she has already initiated legal steps to challenge the process, insisting that the matter goes beyond internal party politics because money was spent by aspirants who expected a fair contest.

Her allegations have further intensified conversations around internal democracy and transparency within party primaries in Cross River State ahead of the 2027 elections.
