BOKI LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL CHAIRMAN COMPLETES TOWN HALL PEACE TOUR IN BOKI
On Saturday, November 14th 2020, the one week peace tour Initiative of Boki Local Government Council Chairman, Hon (Pastor) John Ewa was successfully concluded in Boje, the Headquarters of Boki Local Government Area with its goal satisfactorily met. The dialog and sensitization tour with the tag "No More Blood In Our Land" sought to create a new orientation on the dangers of social vices, communal conflicts/wars and the seizure of government properties by communities and how it is blocking all-round development of Boki.
The Town Hall Meeting tours started on Monday, 9th November in Kakwe, Beebo/Bumaji Ward and was concluded in Beterico, Alankwu Ward. Buentsebe and Abo Wards took the second day while, Ekpashi and Ogep Wards had their turn on Wednesday being the third day. Kakwagom/Bawup, Oku/Borum/Njua, Buda and Bunyia Okubuchi Wards were hosted on Thursday and Friday respectively, with the Grand Finale in Boje Ward.
The Central message propagated in these meetings was the restoration of peaceful coexistence amongst Boki communities ravaged by communal arms conflicts and the abolition of social vices especially, cultism which has become the new stock-in-trade for most Youths in the Local Government. Honourable (Pastor) John Ewa elucidated a passionate tone throughout the days of this tour as he was literally crying against the backwardness and underdevelopment of Boki occasioned by the abrupt rise in restiveness amongst communities, blood shed and the amok run by cultism in the Local Government, as he unraveled how these negative trends have limited investments, human capital growth and infrastructural deficits in the Local Government Area. Pastor John Ewa, the Clergy, traditional and Opinion Leaders present vehemently called for the restoration of peace in the length and breadth of Boki land noting that, Boki is the most underdeveloped LGA in Cross River State consequent of the New negative identity of violence labeled with her current image.
The Council Chairman unequivocally spoke against the seizure of government estates by some communities and hoodlums which he maintained, has been responsible for the lack of agro revolution in the three government estates of Boki; a gain currently being enjoyed by Biase Akamkpa, Akpabuyu and many other LGAs.
The Town Hall meetings ventilated the hopes and aspirations of a new Boki that is possible under the leadership of Pastor John Ewa as decisive steps to stem the tide against this negativities in agreement with traditional and community leaders was arrived at in the course of these tours. The Chairman has hinted of his plans to commence a social rehabilitation program for all repentant cultists and other violence induced individuals in the Local Government while warning that after the peaceful tours, any community or individual caught shedding blood in Boki for whatever reason will be dealt with the long arm of the law.
The purpose of these peace meetings was encouragingly reinforced by the absolute cooperation of Political Class, Opinion Leaders, the Traditional Institution, community leaders, the Youths and Men and Women of the eleven political Wards of Boki Local Government Area with a 'No More Blood' treaty pact endorsed by all community Stakeholders.
The Peace Tour was widely attended by the Leader of Boki Legislature, all Councilors and the Political Appointees of Council. Others who graced this movement were Commissioners for Works and Aviation - Cross River State, Special Advisers and other State Government Appointees, Traditional Leaders and Civil Society Organizations.
The Tour was facilitated by the Chairman of Council and Some Clergymen.
