As the 2027 Senatorial Election approaches, supporters of Rt. Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa have called on voters in Cross River Central Senatorial District to prioritise experience, competence and proven leadership in choosing their next representative at the National Assembly.
In a statement issued through BEE Media, the campaign argued that the Senate requires people with established legislative and political experience, rather than candidates who would be using the position to learn the fundamentals of lawmaking and governance.
According to the statement, leadership should not be treated as a “laboratory for trial and error,” stressing that critical responsibilities should be entrusted to individuals whose capacities and records have already been tested.
The statement described the Senate as a critical institution where national policies are debated, laws are enacted, constitutional issues are considered and oversight of government is exercised. It therefore argued that anyone representing Cross River Central at that level should possess legislative competence, political maturity, institutional knowledge and the ability to build relationships across political divides.
The campaign presented Bassey Eko Ewa as a candidate whose political career has been built over several years, beginning with youth leadership, student activism and advocacy.
It further highlighted his experience in the Cross River State House of Assembly, where he served as Majority Leader before becoming Speaker, describing the positions as evidence of his legislative and leadership experience.
His supporters also pointed to his tenure representing the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, saying the experience exposed him to federal lawmaking, legislative oversight, constituency representation and the workings of national institutions.
The campaign said the central question for voters in 2027 should therefore not only be who wants to occupy the senatorial seat, but who is already prepared for the responsibility that comes with it.
“Senate is not political settlement ground,” the statement declared, arguing that Cross River Central needs a representative capable of making the senatorial seat count through effective representation and engagement with government institutions.
The statement ultimately framed the 2027 election as a choice between “experience and experimentation,” “proven leadership and political apprenticeship,” while urging voters to support Bassey Eko Ewa for the Senate.
“Central deserves experience. Central deserves competence. Central deserves Rt. Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa,” the campaign stated.
BEE Media subsequently called on voters across Cross River Central to support Bassey Eko Ewa in the 2027 senatorial election.
