Today is the birthday of Hon. Dr. Sir Julius Kijuo, FRGP. The Boki-born politician is an academic and a young business mogul.
PROFILE
Education
Dr. Kijuo attended Mary Knoll College, Okuku, Yala. He furthered his university education at the prestigious University of Calabar, where he obtained his first degree in Education Economics and a Master’s degree in Community Development.
His love for human and community development propelled him to embark on a PhD programme in Community Development, where he convoked as the youngest PhD holder in Cross River State during the 36th University of Calabar Convocation in 2024.
His endless quest for knowledge led him to enrol in an international programme, where he earned a Degree Certificate in Shipboard Safety: General Safety and Safe Working Practice from Alison College, Galway, Ireland.
Dr. Kijuo also holds five additional certificates under the World Bank APPEALS Programme, certificates in SDGs and Animal Husbandry, and is a member of the Research Gateway Institute.
POSITIONS HELD
Dr. Julius is the founder and pioneer chairman of Cross River State Youth in Politics. He served as Faculty of Education President in 2013 and was awarded Best Faculty President.
In 2020, he was appointed Special Assistant on Public Works to the Cross River State Government by the past administration. His hard work and quality leadership earned the confidence of His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, who appointed him Special Assistant on Youth Development (Central).
Three months later, due to his enthusiastic and remarkable performance, he was promoted to Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Youth Development. A few weeks ago, he also emerged as Chairman, Forum of Young Government Appointees, Cross River State.
Due to his international experience in safety, Dr. Kijuo was recently appointed Chairman, Joint National Transport Safety Committee of Nigeria, a presidential committee set up by His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to promote safety.
BUSINESS LIFE
Dr. Julius has served as Managing Director of one of the leading tax consulting firms, where he rendered services to both federal and state governments.
The young role model has over 37 awards to his credit, both national and international. These include Best Faculty of Education President in the history of the University of Calabar (2014), Most Proactive Young Appointee in Cross River State (2022), and Influential Youth Award by Diaspora North America (2023), among others.
PHILANTHROPIC LIFE
He was among the first to distribute palliatives in Boki in 2019 during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also undertakes yearly sponsorship of JAMB forms for the less privileged in Boki and provides scholarships to university students across the state.
Students benefiting from his annual university scholarships across the state also witnessed his facilitation of the construction of a civic centre in his community and support for the grading of internal roads in Agba Osokom, Boki LGA.
The young philanthropist is a Knight of St. John International of the Roman Catholic Church, a charismatic member, and is married to Lady (Mrs.) Mavis Julius Kijuo. The marriage is blessed with a beautiful daughter and son.
