‘No Road, No Election’: Boki Youths Appreciate Gov. Otu Over Prompt Response to Protest

 

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Abo Ward in Boki Local Government Area, has formally appreciated Governor Bassey Edet Otu for his swift response to the recent “No Road, No Election” protest staged along the Ikom-Obudu highway.

In a letter dated February 18, 2026, and signed by Chief Assam Martins Etta, Councilor NYCN Abo Ward and leader of the protest, the youths expressed gratitude to the governor for what they described as a compassionate and timely intervention following their five-day peaceful demonstration.

The protest, which drew participation from youths across Boki, Etung, Obanliku and Obudu Local Government Areas, was aimed at drawing urgent government attention to the deplorable condition of the Ikom-Obudu federal highway. The road, according to the youths, has caused severe hardship, economic losses and even loss of lives over the years.

The group commended Governor Otu for personally showing concern and directing relevant commissioners to engage with the protesters. They noted that his action restored hope and renewed their confidence in purposeful governance.

The youths specifically appreciated the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang, for engaging them and facilitating communication between the government and the protesters.

They also thanked the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Ankpo Pius, for his assurances that steps would be taken to address the poor state of the road. His presence during the engagement, they said, gave them hope that rehabilitation work would commence soon.

In the same vein, the group acknowledged the role played by Hon. Oden Ewa, Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, describing his intervention as instrumental in calming tensions and ensuring that their concerns reached the highest levels of government.

The councillor representing Bendege Ward and members of the supervisory council were also commended for their grassroots involvement and support throughout the protest.

Special recognition was given to Comrade Emmanuel Olaye and Comrade Awa Peter, NYCN Chairman in Cross River State and Coordinator NYCN Boki, for their leadership and coordination efforts during the protest.

The youths further applauded participants from the four affected local government areas for maintaining discipline and conducting the protest peacefully.

While reaffirming their support for the state government, the group expressed optimism that under Governor Otu’s leadership, neglected infrastructure in the central part of Cross River State would receive the urgent attention it deserves.

They concluded by pledging continued cooperation with the government as efforts intensify to fix the Ikom-Obudu highway and improve the welfare of the people.
