Cross River Police Nab Suspect, Recover Locally Made Pistol in Ikom

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old man, Ukong Abraham, for unlawful possession of a firearm and related offences in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.

According to a press statement issued by the Command, the arrest followed a complaint lodged on April 15, 2026, at about 12:00 noon by a 22-year-old woman, identified as Delight Benjamin, who alleged that the suspect assaulted her, resulting in bodily harm.

Acting swiftly on the report, detectives attached to the Ikom Police Division reportedly moved to invite the suspect for questioning. However, upon sighting the police operatives, the suspect fled the scene in an attempt to evade arrest.

The Command stated that a coordinated and intelligence-driven follow-up operation was immediately launched to track the suspect. He was later apprehended by police operatives after sustained efforts.

During interrogation and subsequent search, officers recovered a locally made pistol in his possession, further raising concerns over illegal arms circulation within the area.

Police confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case, including possible links to other criminal activities within and outside the locality.

The Command also reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts against the proliferation of illegal firearms, warning that such acts pose a serious threat to public safety and peace in the state.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or criminal activity to security agencies through designated emergency lines or by visiting the nearest police station.
