The Cross River State Police Command has arrested two suspected “one chance” robbers in Calabar following a robbery incident involving a nursing student.
The suspects, identified as Leo Celestine (25) and Ndiana-Abasi William (30), were apprehended on Wednesday, April 16, 2026, after allegedly attacking a passenger inside a commercial minibus.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the suspects posed as passengers before targeting their victim, a 20-year-old student of the School of Nursing, Calabar.
The victim was reportedly dispossessed of her Android phone and other personal belongings before being pushed out of the moving vehicle by the suspects.
In a swift turn of events, the driver of the minibus stopped immediately, raised an alarm, and chased the suspects as they attempted to escape towards the Bogobiri axis of Calabar.
Police operatives, who responded promptly to the distress call, joined the pursuit and successfully arrested the suspects.
Authorities confirmed that the stolen phone and other valuables were recovered from them.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to being members of the Vikings Confraternity and admitted to carrying out similar “one chance” robbery operations across the metropolis. They also revealed that stolen items are usually sold to receivers within the city.
The Police Command said efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate, including those who buy stolen goods.
The Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to stay alert and report suspicious movements to security agencies.
