The Cross River State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing fight against violent crime with the arrest of a 26-year-old suspect, Daniel Saviour, over alleged involvement in armed robbery, assault, and unlawful possession of firearms.
The arrest followed a report lodged at the Ikpa Omin Police Division on April 26, 2026, by a complainant, Gabriel, who alleged that the suspect confronted him over the whereabouts of his brother, Isaac.
According to the report, the incident escalated later that same day when the complainant, while riding his motorcycle, was attacked by the suspect. The suspect allegedly used a machete to inflict serious injuries on the victim’s hand before robbing him of his Q-Link 125 motorcycle and a Tecno 528 mobile phone.
Operatives of the Division responded swiftly and moved to the scene, but the suspect had fled before their arrival, prompting an immediate manhunt.
In a sustained intelligence-led follow-up operation, police operatives, in collaboration with military personnel stationed at the Scanobo Checkpoint in Calabar, successfully tracked and arrested the suspect on April 30, 2026.
A search conducted at the point of arrest led to the recovery of the following items:
- One locally made pistol
- One dagger
- One machete
- One pen knife
- One short axe
The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough and comprehensive investigation. Efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen motorcycle and other exhibits connected to the case.
The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
