A devastating windstorm has destroyed more than 50 houses in Bishiri North, located in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State, leaving widespread damage and displacing several families.
The storm, which mainly affected the Lishiche and Shikpeche communities, started with light rainfall before escalating into a violent downpour accompanied by strong winds. Within minutes, homes were torn apart, while key structures including a community town hall, church, schools, and a health post suffered severe damage. Several vehicles were also destroyed.
Residents described the incident as one of the worst in recent history, with properties worth millions of naira lost. Many victims sustained injuries, and some were rushed to hospitals after collapsing or suffering shock.
The disaster has left many families homeless, prompting urgent calls for assistance. Community leaders are appealing to government agencies, emergency management bodies, and NGOs to provide immediate relief and support to affected residents.
