A suspected Fulani herder has been arrested following a shocking stabbing incident that left one man critically injured and another wounded in Wanikade community, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on May 26, 2026, has sparked fresh concerns among residents over rural security and justice in parts of Cross River State.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Cross River State Police Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah Akata, said the suspect is currently in police custody while investigations continue.
According to a police statement obtained by our reporter, the matter was officially reported at Okpoma Division in Yala on May 27 by the Village Head of Bitol, Chief Mathew Ulakom.
Police said the suspect, identified as Ibrahim Rua, aged 20, was allegedly employed by one Inaku Obok, popularly known as Audi Bako, to take care of his cattle.
The statement revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked his employer without provocation and stabbed him in the stomach. Another resident identified as Lukpata Lom was also reportedly stabbed on the head and back during the incident.
The police noted that the injured employer sustained grievous injuries and was initially rushed to Lutheran Hospital in Yahe before being referred to the Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, for advanced treatment. The second victim was reportedly treated and discharged.
ASP Sunday Eitokpah Akata further disclosed that the suspect was arrested through the combined efforts of the Community Youth Chairman and local residents before being handed over to the police.
The Police Public Relations Officer stated that investigation into the matter is ongoing and further updates would be communicated as the case progresses.
The incident has continued to generate reactions within the community, with many residents calling for justice and improved security measures in rural areas across the state.
