2027: Wilfred Usani Accepts ADC Ticket, Promises Stronger Voice for Central Cross River in Senate

African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Cross River Central, Barrister Wilfred Usani, has formally accepted his party’s nomination, promising to provide what he described as effective representation, stronger advocacy and renewed development focus for the district if elected.

Usani, while delivering his acceptance speech, said his aspiration to represent the people of Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate was driven by the belief that the area is blessed with enormous human and natural resources but has not fully achieved its potential.

The former Special Adviser on Tourism Development to the Cross River State Government under the administration of Senator Liyel Imoke said his experience in public service, private practice and engagement with communities had exposed him to both the opportunities and challenges facing the district.

He identified agriculture, tourism, mineral resources and youth empowerment as key areas requiring urgent attention, noting that many communities across Boki, Etung, Ikom, Yakurr, Abi and Obubra continue to struggle with challenges including poor infrastructure, limited access to finance and inadequate economic opportunities.

Usani also highlighted the tourism potential of attractions including Agbokim Waterfalls, Buanchor Canopy Walkway, and the historic monoliths of Alok and Nkarasi, arguing that more investment was needed to transform these assets into job-creating ventures.

Speaking on the current representation of the district, the ADC candidate said Central Cross River had not enjoyed the level of representation that matches its importance and contribution to the state.

He promised that his legislative agenda would focus on attracting federal projects, supporting agricultural value chains, promoting responsible mineral development, improving infrastructure, and using Senate oversight powers to ensure government projects deliver results.

Usani said security, peace building and constitutional reforms that promote fairness and equity would also form part of his priorities.

He urged voters to support the ADC and its candidates in the 2027 elections, describing the election as an opportunity for the people to make a choice for improved leadership and development.

“The power to change our circumstances does not lie only in government offices; it lies with the people,” he said, calling on residents of Central Cross River to support a new direction.
