Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has ordered the immediate suspension of the sale of tickets, collection of levies, and other related charges imposed on inter-city transport operators by government agents and security personnel across the state.
Governor Otu, in a statement announcing the directive, said: “I have directed all relevant agencies and security personnel to comply fully with this directive pending further notice.”
The governor said the decision followed extensive consultations with the leadership of the Inter City Drivers Association and was aimed at reducing the burden faced by transport operators and commuters in the state.
He explained that his administration would soon bring together key stakeholders in the transport sector to develop a sustainable and fair framework that would serve the interest of operators, government, and the public.
According to Otu, the move aligns with his administration’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment, supporting livelihoods, and ensuring that the impact of governance is felt by residents across Cross River.
The directive is expected to affect existing revenue collection practices around inter-city transport operations as the government begins discussions on a new structure for the sector.
