A family in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State has appealed to the Nigerian Army and relevant authorities to urgently assist their son, Franklin Elemi Ivara, a 22-year-old who sustained a severe gunshot injury during an incident along the Ediba–Itigidi Highway.
According to an Interim Police Investigation Report dated April 27, 2026, Franklin, an indigene of Itigidi community, was injured after being struck by a stray bullet allegedly fired by a soldier during an operation involving personnel of the Nigerian Army’s Army Guard Command and Sector Three on April 20, 2026.
The police investigation reportedly concluded that the shooting was accidental and not intentional, while recommending that the victim should receive full medical assistance for his treatment.
The family said military personnel, including Intelligence Officer Abubakar Faruk and Sergeant Aliyu M., had assured the community that responsibility would be taken for Franklin’s medical care after a seized military motorcycle was released.
However, despite receiving initial treatment, Franklin is still experiencing severe pain and has been referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki, where an initial deposit of ₦2.5 million is required for multiple surgeries.
The family said they are unable to raise the needed funds and fear that further delay could result in permanent damage to his injured leg.
They are appealing to the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, the Senior State Security Adviser, the Chairman of Abi Local Government Area, and other relevant authorities to intervene and ensure that the police recommendation for medical support is implemented.
The family has also called on members of the public to support efforts to save Franklin’s leg.
