The Chairman of Boki Local Government Area, Hon. Eti-Eka (Mrs.) Beatrice Etta Nyiam, has reacted to reports of an alleged unauthorized entry of Cameroonian military personnel into Danare Community, assuring residents that the matter has been escalated to relevant authorities for immediate attention.
Reports of the incident emerged on Tuesday after claims circulated on social media alleging that more than 200 Cameroonian military officers entered the border community, causing panic among residents and sparking concerns over security along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
Responding in a statement issued by her Chief Press Secretary, Kumini Sheriff Otu-Oshibu, the Boki Council Chairman said she had received reports and concerns from residents regarding the alleged incident and was already engaging the appropriate security and government agencies.
"The Chairman wishes to assure the people of Danare and the entire Boki Local Government Area that she is fully aware of the situation and has immediately escalated the matter to the appropriate security and government authorities for prompt attention and necessary action," the statement said.
Hon. Nyiam urged residents to remain calm and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions or creating panic while investigations and engagements with relevant authorities continue.
She reaffirmed her administration's commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and the territorial integrity of communities within the local government area.
The Chairman further assured residents that the council would continue to work closely with security agencies and other authorities to ensure that the concerns raised by the community are thoroughly addressed and that peace and security are maintained in the border area.
The council also commended residents for their vigilance and encouraged them to continue providing credible information through appropriate channels.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by the Nigerian Army or other federal security agencies confirming or denying the alleged entry of Cameroonian military personnel into the community.
