According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division Nigerian Army, the incident occurred on June 9, 2026, when personnel of the Cameroonian Armed Forces reportedly entered Nigerian territory.
The Army said troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Danare promptly responded after receiving reports of the foreign military presence. Military authorities from both countries subsequently established contact, leading to the withdrawal of the Cameroonian troops in line with existing border protocols.
The statement noted that the situation was brought under control without any further escalation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a dispute over the collection of levies on farmland located between Danare Community in Nigeria and Dadi Community in Cameroon.
To prevent a recurrence and strengthen cooperation along the border, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division has directed the Commander of 13 Brigade to engage with his Cameroonian counterpart. The engagement is expected to enhance border coordination, clarify operational procedures, and reinforce existing military and diplomatic ties between both countries.
The Nigerian Army reassured residents of Danare and neighbouring communities that the area remains calm and secure, adding that troops are maintaining vigilance and monitoring activities along the border.
Residents have also been urged to remain peaceful, continue their lawful activities, and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary tension.
