The Cross River State Government has intensified efforts to modernise healthcare delivery with the commencement of a major health digitisation project at the Calabar General Hospital. The initiative is aimed at introducing technology-driven systems that will improve patient management, hospital operations and decision-making across the facility.

The development followed an inspection visit by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, who assessed the progress of the ongoing digital transformation programme. The commissioner was taken through various departments of the hospital where networking infrastructure, data cabling and other technical installations are being deployed to support the new system.

The project, being implemented with technical support from Healthstack Solutions, is designed to create a more integrated healthcare information system, allowing medical records and hospital processes to move from traditional manual methods to a more efficient digital platform.

Speaking during the inspection, Dr. Ayuk said the future of healthcare is increasingly dependent on technology, noting that the digitisation programme would enhance patient management, strengthen data-based planning and improve service delivery across the state.

He directed clinical leaders and heads of departments at the hospital to prepare for full compliance with the new digital protocols once implementation begins, stressing that the success of the project would depend on staff commitment and proper adoption of the system.

The inspection also covered ongoing renovation works at the hospital, including improvements at the main entrance and the General Outpatients Department (GOPD), with officials stating that the upgrades are expected to ease congestion and improve workflow for both patients and healthcare workers.

Healthstack Solutions CEO, Dr. Simpa Dania, explained that the project includes advanced networking systems and backend integration across different service points in the hospital. He also provided updates on the implementation timeline and progress of the digital infrastructure deployment.

The company’s Chief Marketing Officer, Dr. Kelechi Okoro, emphasized the importance of reliable health data in modern medicine, saying that accurate information supports better decision-making, resource allocation and improved healthcare outcomes.

The Cross River State Government said the initiative forms part of Governor Bassey Otu’s broader healthcare reform agenda, focused on using innovation and technology to improve access, efficiency and quality of care across the state.
