A new chapter in the leadership structure of Ochibe Bokyi has commenced following the inauguration of its Board of Trustees (BoT), with renowned academic and administrator, Dr. Pius Tabi Tawo, unanimously elected as Chairman.
The inaugural meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on June 5, 2026, bringing together an array of distinguished sons and daughters of Boki, including retired military officers, academics, legal practitioners, traditional leaders, and public servants.
The Board elected Dr. Tawo to serve an initial five-year tenure as Chairman, with provisions for renewal for an additional five years if deemed necessary.
The newly constituted Board is expected to provide strategic guidance, oversight, and institutional support to the Executive arm of Ochibe Bokyi, a development many stakeholders believe will strengthen governance, unity, and community-driven development within Boki.
Reacting to the development, Chief Enu Caesar of Borum, a prominent civil society advocate, congratulated Dr. Tawo on his emergence, describing the appointment as a positive signal for renewed vigor in Boki leadership.
According to him, Dr. Tawo's acceptance of the responsibility reflects a commitment to fostering inclusive leadership and ensuring that young people have a stronger voice in decision-making processes affecting the future of Boki.
He noted that the establishment of an active Board of Trustees with oversight and supervisory responsibilities demonstrates a deliberate effort to strengthen institutional structures within Ochibe Bokyi and enhance accountability in leadership.
"The emergence of Dr. Pius Tawo as Chairman of the Board of Trustees is a welcome development. It represents an opportunity to harness the experience of respected leaders while creating room for youth participation and fresh ideas in community affairs," Chief Caesar stated.
The Board comprises several notable personalities, including former military officers, distinguished professors, senior legal practitioners, and accomplished public servants whose collective experience is expected to contribute significantly to the advancement of Boki interests.
Members present at the inaugural meeting included H.E. Col. Paul Edor Obi (Rtd), Gen. Moses Obi (Rtd) OON, Col. Anthony Nyiam (Rtd), Dr. Pius Tawo, Prof. Florence Obi, Chief John Owan, Chief Anthony Ayine FCA, FCTI, OON, Barr. George Ekpungu PhD, MFR, Prof. Donald Enu, Prof. Raphael Ogom, Barr. Christie Okoi, Sen. Matthew Mbu, Prof. Oshita Oshita, Mr. Kingsley Kejuo, and Dr. Emmanuel Asu Bisong.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Ellias Kekong Bisong was absent but sent his apologies.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting unity, cultural preservation, development initiatives, and stronger collaboration among stakeholders across Boki Local Government Area.
Observers say the emergence of the Board and the election of its chairman could mark the beginning of a more structured approach to community leadership and development advocacy in Boki.
